Mission
Our Virtual Language Resource Center is created to help you practice your speaking skills, especially your spoken fluency, by using web tools 2,0 in a virtual space. Here, we want to help you become more autonomous learners and practice English through self-access materials and online dynamic resources.
Objectives
Our Virtual Language Resource Center (VLRC) will provide you with meaningful web 2.0 tools and online resources to foster your speaking skills guided by two tutors, who will assist you with any difficulty.
- To let you participate in speaking tasks (such as short talks and forums) into contextualized situations to foster your spoken fluency.
- To allow you develop your argumentative skills through discussions where you can show your points of view, agree and/or disagree with your peers.
- To foster your critical thinking skills, specially analyzing and evaluating, by implementing peer-feedback and collaborative work.
- To provide you with web 2.0 tools and online resources that allow you to practice and improve your fluency.
Learners’ profile
This VLRC is designed to address your needs: university students majoring in diverse undergraduate careers at Jorge Tadeo Lozano University and eighth graders studying at Emilio Valenzuela school.
- You, the university students, are young adults, whose ages range from 18 to 26 years and you belong to the English IV class, which is a graduation requirement.
- You, the school students, are pre-teens aged between 10 and 14.
Although you differ in your ages, you all have an A2 English level according to the Common European Framework. You tend to speak with isolated words and struggle with expressing your ideas fluently showing L1 (Spanish) negative transfer problems. Most of you are hesitant and passive speakers since you do not initiate conversations or interact with different participants; you need to develop your self-confidence and take more risks when speaking.
